The skin is a very sensitive part of the body. The skin is the largest barrier against infection. It is important to take care of the skin to avoid wrinkles, skin cancer, pimples, marks, scars and blemishes. The following tips can help with skin protection.

Avoid the use of perfumed soaps and harsh detergents. These products irritate and cause the skin to be dry and scaly. It is advisable to wear gloves when performing tasks that require immersion of hands in water for a long time e.g. when washing clothes.

The fabrics you wear can also contribute to skin irritation. It is advisable to wear fabrics like cotton and linen, which are made from natural plant fiber. Synthetic fabrics are produced by chemical processing of petroleum. These materials are known to aggravate skin conditions e.g. eczema.

Avoid picking on sores or popping pimples as it can lead to bacterial infection, redness, more swelling and bleeding. This will also leave ugly scars on the skin. Try to protect your face and eyes with a hat and sunglasses when outdoors during sunny days. This will protect your skin from dangerous UV rays of the sun.

Avoid tanning at all costs. Over exposure of your skin to UV light damages the skin and might eventually lead to wrinkles or worse, increase the risk of getting skin cancer. Avoid usage of very greasy cosmetics or sunscreen. These products enhance clogging and might eventually cause pimples.

Exfoliate regularly to remove dead cells. This not only prevents the clogging of the skin pores but also help to keep the skin smooth. Use products that contain natural exfoliants e.g. milk contains lactic acid, a natural exfoliant.

Avoid washing the skin with hot soapy water as this reduces the natural skin oils and can lead to dry skin. Scrub the body preferably with natural scrubs at least once a week to remove dead cells and unclog pores. It is important to use scrubs with tiny grains. Big grains in cheap scrub tend to tear skin and cause more harm than good.
